Let’s meet Carla
I’ve been in the homebuilding industry for almost 25 years. I built my first home in my early 20s and was fascinated by the process.

What are three fun facts about you?
I collect antique typewriters: usually with a fire crackling and baroque chamber music playing, I type out poems as they come—unedited, unpolished. No backspace, no do-overs—just raw thoughts stamped in ink, precisely as they were meant to be.
I have a collection of century-old china: pieces that have overheard a hundred years of conversations, celebrations, and whispered secrets. And against all advice, I put mine in the dishwasher.
I used to paint: I haven’t picked up a brush in years, but when I did, hours would slip by like minutes—usually painting ‘four-leggeds’!

Always try to work backwards from your payment, instead of fixating on the price tag. Many first-time buyers—get fixated on a round number, like $500,000, without considering what that actually means for their budget. The difference between a $500,000 home and a $510,000 home might be just $25 bi-weekly.
If that slight difference gets you a home that truly fits your needs, it’s worth weighing. Instead of getting stuck on an arbitrary price cap, start with the monthly payment you’re comfortable with and work backwards to find the price range that makes sense.
