Geoffrey McKay — Cantiro Homes Area Sales Manager in Alces.

In our ongoing blog series, we’ll introduce you to the members of our award-winning sales team at Cantiro Homes. Today, we’re excited to introduce Geoffrey McKay, our Area Sales Manager in Alces.

Let’s meet Geoff

I have been in New Home Sales for 17 years now. I graduated high school, I travelled the world and didn’t know what to do with myself when I got home. My mom, Muriel McKay, has been in new home sales since I was 9. To this day, she still has an amazing reputation in the world of Edmonton real estate, having won many awards.

There were a few emergency moments, when I was a teenager, that I used to go open her show home for her and sit as a host. It was right around the corner from where we lived. So, new home sales have always been a big part of my life.

When I returned from my travels at 19, I decided to give the business an honest shot. I went to work with my mom as her assistant for the next six years. Her standards and her work ethic have always been an inspiration to me. After that, I became an Area Sales Manager, and I worked for a couple of different builders before I came to Cantiro.

What are three fun facts about you?

  • I am a huge NFL Greenbay Packers Fan. I really fell in love with the athleticism of Brett Favre and I’ve been addicted to the team ever since. The Greenby Packers are the only publicly owned team in the NFL. Yes, I am a shareholder.
  • I am a scratch golfer; I’ve played competitively in semi-pro tournaments.
  • I am a family man, I have a beautiful wife named Kelly and together we have two little girls Emelia and Grace – they are three and a half, and eleven months old.

WHAT excites you most about the home-buying journey?

Building relationships, I love hearing the different stories that bring people towards that next step of buying a home. It’s fascinating because even though I hear the same questions from buyers, the answers that I need to find for them are so wildly different and varied.

I also relish the opportunity to educate people on what to ask and look for from builders, so that even if we’re not the option they choose, they can carry that confidence further into their journey.

I have such a great team here in Alces, and it’s an amazing privilege to get to help people build the place that they will call home. Are you buying a home for the first time? Our guide can help

WHat is it that makes cantiro special?

It really does come back to what we call “the Cantiro Difference.” To tell you a little story, as an example of how we handle our mistakes. I dealt with a client who wanted a 150-amp panel because they wanted to install a hot tub. No problem there, we worked to get it all down on the paperwork in the design phase, it was signed off on by everyone. The build went great, the clients are happy with their home, a couple of months go by and they’re trying to get their hot tub installed and the electrician has discovered that a 100-amp panel has been installed by mistake.

Oh no.

So, at first, I thought that it was all my fault and that I must have missed something. It was a bit of a process to figure out how such a thing had happened. Ultimately, in going back over the paperwork, and meeting with the client care team; it was discovered that just multiple people had missed it.

But the beautiful part of this story is how all those people came together to coordinate and plan the replacement of this panel. It was a five-week process to investigate the changes that had to be made on EPCOR’s side, procuring the parts and labour, and then determining the most efficient/least invasive way to replace the panel.

These five weeks brought us to the middle of December, which presented a new challenge – time without power, without heat, in the cold. This meant that the entire procedure would have to be completed in a single day – and we did it. It was an amazing collaborative effort. The clients were happy.

So many other builders would have just thrown money at the problem and walked away, but Cantiro believes so passionately in doing the right thing that we dedicated two months to figuring out the best possible way to fix this mistake.

What is your favourite Cantiro Model?

Absolutely the Family Flow 24, it is so versatile and beautiful. The open to below is so gorgeous, it brings so much light and energy into the home. It’s the home that my wife and I could see ourselves living in.

It’s such a unique plan and it was the first of its kind, four years ago my answer would have been the Family Generations 24 but that’s another great thing about Cantiro – there’s always something new to look forward to.

You can visit the Family Flow in Castlebrook by booking a tour here.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE COMMUNITY AMENITY IN Alces?

In Alces, for me personally, I am looking forward to those basketball courts when the snow melts. With my two little girls, I can’t wait to take them on the walking trail through the wetland when it’s complete. Really getting the chance to be out in nature with them, seeing the frogs and ducks.

I think we’ll be able to make a lot of nice memories out there.
